Pleased by the results, Nelson later asked Jones to produce an entire standards album for him. Nelson selected his ten favorite pop songs from his childhood, starting with " Stardust ". The album was released in April Nelson became the highest-grossing concert act in the United States. Heard coast to coast in lounges and on elevator soundtracks, these tunes have become part of the folk music of exurban America. And that's the way Nelson plays them—spare and simple, with a jump band's verve and a storyteller's love of a good tale.

By offering these songs, he's displaying the tools of a journeyman musician's trade—worn smooth and polished by constant use—and when he lays them out this way, they kind of look like works of art.

Willie Nelson may be acknowledging both his own and country music's debt to Broadway and Tin Pan Alley, but he's also showing these hallowed musical institutions how the country makes their music its own". But the combination works well [ All of the material seems well suited to his easygoing style as Nelson backs himself with guitar and gets help with guitar, drums, keyboards, bass and harmonica".

Thin vinyl, but on my pretty high quality table, I'm totally satisfied with this version. VincentPresley August 15, Report. Only have the MoFI Silver label to compare it to and this release is hands down better. All around great release! Juleman December 8, Report. Even if you don't like the music, this is a great album to test your system.

Vocals are clear and distinct. The songs seem simple, but then you realize there are multiple instruments in the mix. Guitar, organ, harmonica, strings, bass, drums. Listen in the dark while very high, like me. Reply Notify me 2 Helpful. The only real complaint is a defect that seems to cause a slightly pop for about the last 30 seconds of "Blue Skies".

  2. Stardust is a classic. If you're a Willie Nelson fan you have to have this album in your collection. It's mostly Willie singing standards but he sings them only the way he can sing/5(31).

  5. Entertainer Willie Nelson described this deceptively simple album as a tribute to "the music I heard growing up." Tunes like the title track, "Georgia on My Mind," "Blue Skies" and "Someone to Watch Over Me" are indeed testimonials to the best of /5(K).
  6. referencing Stardust, LP, Album, San, JC Regardless of the format (4x12, dollar bin special, 8-track, cassette, etc.), this album is packed with classics. Classics made famous by others, but restyled to be classics by Willie, that is. I'd call it his best, altho I could live without "Unchained Melody.".
  7. Dec 03,  · Stardust showcases Nelson 's skills as a musician and his entire aesthetic -- where there is nothing separating classic American musical forms, it can all be played together -- perhaps better than any other album, which is why it was a sensation upon its release and grows stronger with each passing year.
  8. Stardust is the twenty-second studio album by Willie Nelson, released in April, Its ten songs consist entirely of pop standards that Nelson picked from among his favorites. Nelson asked Booker T. Jones, who was his neighbor in Malibu at the time, to arrange a version of " Moonlight in Vermont ".
